The Nelson farm at the south entrance to Cheney, May 2011. Community Development Department
Through development of a comprehensive plan and associated land use regulations, the Community Development Department works to assure the city's citizens of an optimum living environment while providing an expanded employment base in an environmentally conscious residential and business community.
Planning Commission meetings are held monthly, on the 2nd Monday of each month, beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the City Hall Council Chambers, 609 2nd Street. Minutes of previous meetings can be reviewed here, and an agenda for the current month's meeting is also available for review.
Cheney Comprehensive Plan: City Council has adopted the 2010-2030 Comprehensive Plan, the policy document which will drive development over the next 20 years.
Code Update Project: A major emphasis for 2013 is completion of an update of the codes which govern development and construction in our community. This process will include integrating the existing codes (zoning, subdivisions, development standards, and environmental regulations) into a Unified Development Code (UDC), as well as addressing contemporary land use issues. Public comment is invited at all stages of this process.
