DESCRIPTION:Friends of Turnbull Auction will be held at the United Church of Christ in Cheney (6th st. and Oakland) on Sunday April 22nd from 1:30pm-4:00pm.\nCome enjoy a Spaghetti Feed but on by the Friends of Turnbull NWR- Tickets $15 each - children under 12 free!\nTurnbull National Wildlife Refuge has been a center for on-site environmental education for over 25 years. With the support of Friends of Turnbull\, a non-profit organization established in 1997\, the refuge staff has been able to increase environmental awareness within Spokane\, Washington. The refuge hosts one of the largest and most diverse environmental education (EE) programs in the Region serving as a model for other programs. Throughout the Inland NW students of all ages benefit from Turnbull’s EE and outreach program which is facilitated largely by volunteers. It is the intention of the Refuge staff to develop an educated and informed constituency\, pro-active in protecting and restoring natural ecosystems. The refuge is currently offering a multi-faceted environmental education program consisting of four major projects serving up to 7\,000 students each year. Additionally\, the Refuge supports 3 major stewardship projects for students at the Elementary\, High School\, and University levels which incorporate a variety of educational components. These projects help develop youth and young adults who foster long-term interest in conservation of natural resources contributing to healthy ecosystems for future generations. Population around the Refuge has increased at a rate of 15% per decade\, resulting in greater demands from the public for EE. Without staff available to commit full-time to EE\, the Refuge must rely on grants and volunteer support to meet these demands. \n
