When Will the Yard Waste Bins Open?

The opening date for Cheney's drop-off location for 'clean green' yard waste has been set for Saturday, March 25 - weather permitting.

The City's grinding equipment could be damaged by chunks of frozen material, so the yard waste collection bins are not set out until our crews determine that the collected material can be processed safely.

The yard waste bins, once they are placed for the year, are located at the Cheney Recycling Center, 100 Anderson Road.

Items accepted for disposal include:

-- leaves

-- grass clippings

-- pinecones

-- pine needles

-- weeds (except herbicide-tainted yard debris)

Brush, pruning and branches are also acceptable yard waste material but must be no larger than two inches in diameter and four feet in length. Please refer to CMC Section 8.16 for more information regarding yard waste disposal.

Absolutely NO scrap iron, rocks, concrete chunks or plastic may be placed in the yard waste bins.  These will cause damage to our grinder, and may result in injury to our crews!

Commercial landscape businesses may also dispose of yard waste material by obtaining a permit to do so. Commercial landscape businesses are required to pay an annual permit fee and provide a report to the City.

For more information, contact the Public Works Department at 498-9293.
