Community Development
The Community Development Department is composed of three distinct areas: - Planning Division: Through development of a comprehensive plan and associated land use regulations, the Planning Division works to assure the city's citizens of an optimum living environment while providing an expanded employment base in an environmentally conscious residential and business community.
- Building Division: The City issues building, mechanical and plumbing permits from its new Permit Center, located at 112 Anderson Road.
- Code Enforcement Division: Dealing with property maintenance issues and zoning code compliance, the Code Enforcement Division is active in helping neighborhoods maintain safe, attractive and inviting surroundings.
Planning Commission meetings are held monthly, on the 2nd Monday of each month, beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the City Hall Council Chambers, 609 2nd Street. Minutes of previous meetings can be reviewed here, and an agenda for the current month's meeting is also available for review. On January 27, 2009, the City Council approved a number of amendments to the zoning, subdivision, and development codes. Although no policy changes were made, the organization and layout of these sections of the Cheney Municipal Code have changed substantially. The effective date of these amended codes is March 7, 2009. Current Development Projects
Current land use applications are summarized on this web site. For further information about any current or proposed land use action, contact the Community Development office at 498-9240. Supporters may buy an engraved History Brick to be placed in the courtyard of the house.
