Training
The Cheney Fire Department Training Division is staffed by the Fire Training Coordinator, Lieutenant Donovan Cathey, with assistance from our three Volunteer Lieutenants. The Training Coordinator is responsible for research, development, and scheduling of the fire training programs. The Volunteer Lieutenants assist with the development and delivery of the training. We continually train on basic firefighting techniques along with learning new skills. In our ever changing fire service, we continue to work towards industry standards. We train our personnel to current standards in fire suppression, hazardous materials, and rescue. We prepare our firefighters for various emergencies within our community. We conduct training sessions every Wednesday night from 7:00pm to 9:00pm. The weekly training classes are instructed by the career and volunteer officers. The training involves staying current on basic firefighting skills and learning new advanced skills. In addition to our weekly training, our firefighters attend firefighter orientation, recruit schools, hazardous materials training, instructor training, live fire training and officer development training. For information on the Cheney Fire Departments training program contact Donovan Cathey at 509-498-9270.
