Incorporated in 1883, Cheney boasts of a historical district that has a very informational walking tour. Take our historical tour. Cheney Rodeo Days is held at the Bi-Mart Arena during the 2nd weekend in July. For additional information, visit the rodeo's website at www.cheneyrodeo.com. University life Eastern Washington University is, of course, the centerpiece of Cheney’s academic and cultural environment. EWU is always bustling with activities for many different interests. You may link to EWU for a schedule of events. Cheney has an abundance of outdoor activities that include a Parks and Recreation Department with: - seven (7) city parks
- an outdoor swimming pool
- tennis courts
- baseball and softball diamonds
- and five (5) soccer fields.
Also, on the Eastern Washington University campus: - There are two (2) college theaters and one (1) art gallery on the EWU campus, as well as an indoor swimming pool.
Outdoor and wildlife Turnbull National Wildlife Refuge is five (5) miles south of Cheney, which has numerous hiking trails and a motorized trail for viewing wildlife and aquatic areas.
