- Did you know? The City of Cheney gets hundreds of dollars returned in the mail each year due to insufficient addresses. When you close your account, we refund your deposit. If you have a refund coming, we then send out a refund check to the address you either give us or your last known address. Especially in the summer months, we receive many refund checks back in the mail, unable to be delivered. You could have money and not even know it. Make sure you provide us with a good address, we would rather send you your money than the State!
Things You Should Know About Your New Utility Account When you move out, you must come in to our office to disconnect your utility account. Your deposit will then be applied to your final bill. A refund or notice of remaining balance owing will be sent to your forwarding address.
If you wish to change your garbage service, you must complete a Solid Waste Service Form.
A one-time-only connect fee of $5.00 per service for electric and water will appear on your first bill.
Bills are mailed once a month, on the last working day of the month.
If you do not receive your bill within the first week of each month, you are responsible to phone our office to find out the amount of your bill.
The bills are due on the 15th of the month, unless that day falls on a weekend or holiday. Then the bill will be due on the first working day after the 15th. Payments must be received by the Finance Office no later than 5:00pm on the due date.
You will be charged a late fee and mailed a late notice if the bill is not paid by the due date.
The day before the scheduled disconnect day, unpaid accounts will be sent a third late notice in the form of a doorhanger. If you receive a doorhanger, you will also be charged a $30.00 fee. Utility accounts are disconnected each month if the bill is not paid in full prior to disconnect day.
Once your account is disconnected, it will not be reconnected until full payment of outstanding charges, including the disconnect order fee of $30.00 is paid. If you choose an afterhours connect an additional $120.00 will need to be paid in order to restore your utility service.
Your deposit is not negotiable or transferable to another person or location.
To ensure that your payment is applied to the correct account, please include the small portion of your utility bill with your payment and write your account number on your check.
How long does it take to receive service?
Orders to connect or disconnect service placed before 3:00 pm may be completed the same day. To request connect or disconnect requires the individual to complete and sign utilities record card at the Finance Office.
