Youth Court

The Cheney Youth Court, established in 2008, holds court every third Thursday of the month at 6 p.m. throughout the school year. All positions of the Youth Court are held by students selected through an application process. Students must be age 13 or older, attend a local public school, or are home schooled.

The Cheney Youth Court is a teen peer-review court hearing civil infractions committed by youth within the Court's jurisdiction. The Youth Court benefits both the offender and their community through a collaborative restorative justice process.

Youth Receiving a Ticket

If you are 16 or 17 years old and received a ticket and you wish to request a Youth Court hearing, you must fill out a request form (PDF) and submit it within the 15-day response period.

For Future Student Jurors & Judges

Volunteering for the Youth Court offers educational material and is a rewarding experience. Along with learning about the judicial system, students who serve on the Court have the opportunity to meet other enthusiastic youth as well as the possibility of traveling to Youth Court events.

If you wish to join the students on the court, please complete the Youth Court Jury Application and return it to the court as soon as possible to allow time for orientation and training.
