City Councilmember Mark Posthuma

Mark moved to Cheney in 2005 with his wife and two kids. He graduated from Boulder City High School in Boulder City Nevada in 1991. He attended and graduated from LIFE Pacific University in 1996 with a BA in Biblical Studies. He has served as a pastor in Colorado Springs, Colorado, Klamath Falls, Oregon and for the past 16 years in Cheney.

Currently, Mark is the pastor at Cheney Faith Center. He has led a non-profit financial board for 16 years. He has served in many different capacities while living in Cheney. As a volunteer at Cheney Clean Sweep, Cheney Mayfest, Cheney Clothing Bank and Cheney Food Bank. He has coached sports teams for Cheney parks and recreation, at Cheney Middle School and Cheney High School. He has led a Christmas meal distribution for 75 Cheney families yearly since 2014. Led three financial campaigns for ACCOIN (American Childhood Cancer Organization Inland Northwest), organized weekly COVID food distribution from 2020-2021 (2,000 lbs. of food per week), and led a financial campaign for Cheney Food and Clothing Bank. He recently served as a board member for the Long-Term Recovery Organization for Malden/Pine City due to the September 2020 fire and assists with the Bite to Go weekend food distribution at Betz Elementary.

Mark is proud to be serving the city of Cheney as a councilmember. He is excited about enhancing the benefits of being a small city, public safety, the lessons youth can learn through parks and recreation, creating a balanced budget, and helping Cheney grow in positive ways into the future.

In his free time Mark enjoys spending time with his family, fishing, hunting, boating, camping, hanging out with friends, watching sports (especially EWU), and taking walks with his wife.

The city of Cheney is a great place to live, raise a family and attend a great university. We have dedicated staff and employees that enjoy working here and serving the citizens of Cheney. Like all cities, Cheney has its challenges and our unity towards common goals will continue to enrich the life, liberty and pursuit of happiness we all desire.”
