The opening of the Cheney Municipal Pool will be delayed by a few days due to leaks in the piping underneath the concrete floor of the pool. Last week, while filling the pool with water, staff discovered the leaks during the process followed for filling the pool. This process requires a check on the amount of water pumped into the pool and the amount maintaining the appropriate water level. After taking a meter read, it was clear that there was a sizable leak somewhere in the piping underneath the concrete of the pool floor. After narrowing down the locations of the leaks, city staff from the parks and water departments worked to cut and remove the concrete covering the pipes to pinpoint the leaks and make the repairs. In the pictures below, you will see the cuts to the concrete and a couple of the sleeves installed on the pipes to cap the leaks. Today, June 12th, staff will be fixing the rest of the leaks, preparing for the cement and caulking to cover the repaired pipes. If everything goes to plan, the pool should be open for business on Monday or Tuesday of next week. Please continue to check our website for up-to-date information on the repairs to the pool and the latest on the anticipated opening date.
