Startup on the City's newly re-drilled well, Well #3, is now postponed until sometime next week. Originally expected to be put into service on July 23rd, the delay was due to scheduling issues with an electrical inspection, and the desire to do additional testing. At this time, City officials are expecting to bring the well online during the last few days of July or the first week of August.
During start-up, residents will most likely experience colored water, and the City Water Department will be flushing hydrants in the area of Well #3. Well #3 is located off Erie Street, between Oak and Cedar Streets, but other parts of the city may be impacted as well. If you experience colored water, please contact the Public Works Department at (509) 498-9293.
If you have discolored water, avoid using your hot water to prevent sediment from being drawn into your water heater. Running cold water, such as your lawn sprinkler system, can help flush the discolored water through the system. Additional information on the Cheney water system and discolored water are available on our Water web page.
