[ARCHIVED] City Water Rate Increase

On July 28, 2019, Cheney City Council approved a change to the City water rate structure. Effective August 15, 2019 water rates will increase from $ 1.47 to $ 1.57 per 100 cubic feet (748 gallons) of water usage. In addition, a tiered water usage rate will be implemented on residential monthly water usage over 3000 cubic feet (22,440 gallons) at a rate of $ 3.14 per 100 cubic feet.

How does the rate affect water usage?

The new usage rate ($ 1.57 per 100 cubic feet) will increase $.10 cents per 100 cubic feet, or $ 1.00 per 1000 cubic feet of water usage.

Tiered rates will be applied to usage over 3,000 cubic feet. For example, the usage for 4,000 cubic feet would pay $ 1.57 per 100 cubic feet up to 3,000 cubic feet for a total of $ 47.10, plus an additional tiered water usage rate of $ 3.14 per 100 cubic feet for an additional water usage amount of $ 31.40.

These changes are the result of a study by FCS Group, an industry leading consultant on utility rates and fees. The additional revenue from the sales of water will fund infrastructure improvements to ensure adequate supply of safe drinking water and water for future irrigation needs in the City.
