[ARCHIVED] Water Main Flushing Begins Week of August 26

A water faucet with a stream of water pouring into a clear glass.

The Cheney Water Department has begun water main flushing this week as a maintenance tool to reduce future instances of discolored water.  The flushing rinses out accumulated sediment and mineral buildup.  Crews started flushing from area fire hydrants in Zone 1, which is the area bounded by Elm Street, Golden Hills Drive, Washington ST and N 2nd Street.  A map of showing water flushing zones is available here.

Flushing these water mains may cause colored water.  If you are experiencing colored water, please run your cold water tap and/or irrigation system for 10 to 15 minutes to see if the water clears up.  If it doesn’t clear up in that time, please contact the Public Works Department at (509) 498-9293.

The flushing program for Zone 1 is estimated to take 3 weeks to complete.  The City will update its website when water crews will begin the next Zone.  If you would like to receive alerts for information on water operations, please sign up for water alerts using the Notify Me button at the bottom of the City's home page.
