Are you curious about the speed of your current internet? If so, click on the link below to go to the Washington State Department of Commerce’s website to conduct a speed test. The very quick test will provide you with the speed of your current internet provider measured in megabits per second (Mbps). This refers to the rate of transferal of data which helps to gauge performance levels. There is additional information on the webpage about the initiative to collect the data and the desire to improve internet accessibility and reliability.
After completing the speed test, your results can be submitted to the Washington State Broadband Survey. The goal of this survey is to map the internet speeds across the state of Washington as we work to increase internet accessibility throughout Washington and especially in rural areas. Better detail on speed or the lack of speed in a community provides a basis for more competitive grant funding applications to enhance a community’s internet/broadband infrastructure.
