With snow expected going into the Christmas holiday, the City of Cheney’s Street Department is monitoring snow accumulations and is prepared to plow arterial and secondary streets and collectors when needed to maintain safe and efficient traffic flow. Plow operations are generally called for any time 2" of snow or more accumulates.
It is very important for citizens to be aware that cars left parked alongside public streets when snow plow operations are in progress will be in violation of Cheney’s Code of Ordinances, as stated below. Additionally, those vehicles create the potential for hazardous outcomes to occur and diminish the City’s ability to optimally remove snow and clear roads.
All vehicles MUST be removed from on-street parking spaces any time 2” of snow or more accumulates, and must remain off the city streets until the street has been plowed.
Cheney Municipal Code 11.48.070 - Snow removal.
The legislative intent of this snow removal ordinance is to promote public safety so that streets provide adequate space for emergency access, safe general traffic and pedestrian movement, and snowplow access throughout the city. Snow plowing is an essential part of maintaining safe streets during winter months. Therefore, each time two or more inches of snow accumulates upon the public streets, and so long as that snow remains uncleared, no vehicle shall be parked or left standing upon any such street or city right-of-way.
