1. When do I call 911 and when do I call the non-emergency line?: An emergency is any situation that requires immediate assistance from the police, fire department or ambulance. Examples include:
*A fire.
*A crime, especially if in progress.
*A car crash, especially if someone is injured.
*A medical emergency, especially symptoms that require immediate medical
attention.
Important: If you're not sure whether the situation is a true emergency, officials recommend calling 911 and letting the call-taker determine whether you need emergency help. All other non-emergency calls can be made to 509-535-9233.

4. Where can I get a copy of my report?: Police reports are obtained through the Deputy City Clerk at 609 2nd Street, Cheney, WA. 99004. Accident reports are obtained through Washington State Patrol. You can view the link HERE.

6. What do I do with old medication that I want to get rid of?: Almost all medicines can be thrown in the household trash, but you should take precautions. Medication disposed of in the garbage must be mixed with coffee grounds or another type of substances, notes the FDA. This is to make the medication less attractive to small children, pets and people who look for drugs in the garbage. Taking the medication from its original packaging and sealing it in a plastic bag or container prevents leakage into the ground or water supply. 8. How do I make a donation to the Cheney Police Department?: The Cheney Police Department Chaplaincy serves as a "help to the help giver", providing compassionate and spiritual support to the men and women of the Cheney Police Department and their families during times of crises and stress. The Chaplaincy Program also serves as a compassionate arm of the department into the community, assisting with compassionate notification and special liaison during times of cries. Donations can be made by making checks payable to the Cheney Police Department Chaplaincy Fund and mailing it to the Cheney Police Department at 215 "G" St., Cheney, WA. 99004.

9. When can I pick up property you are holding?: Property can be picked up by appointment only. Please call 509-498-9282 or 509-498-9275 to schedule an appointment.

10. How do I find out if someone is in jail?: You can contact Cheney Police Dispatch at 509-535-9233 to see if the person you are looking for is being held in Cheney, however most of our detainees are transported to the Spokane County Sheriffs Office (SCSO) jail. You can check the Spokane County Jail roster website to verify. Please keep in mind that depending on the jail status and cooperation with the inmate, it can take some time before the inmate will appear on the website. You can view the SCSO jail roster here?

11. Where do I pay a parking or traffic ticket?: Parking and traffic tickets are paid at the Cheney Municipal Court at 611 2nd St., Cheney, WA. 99004.

12. I had a vehicle accident a couple days ago, and I now want to report it. Can I file the accident report with the Cheney Police Department?: Since a Cheney police officer didn't investigate the collision when it occurred, you would need to fill out a Washington State Motor Vehicle Collision Report. You can obtain a paper form at the Cheney Police Department or it can be done online here!
